The Legend of Spookley The Square Pumpkin

The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin with CD The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin by Joe Troiano
Illustrated by Susan Banta

My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
ages: Kindergarten - 2nd Grade (Early Grade School)
themes: Fall, Halloween, Ugly Duckling, Individuality

This is the fun story of Spookley - a pumpkin who is square. The other pumpkins tease him for his strange shape until one night when he saves the rest of the pumpkins from blowing through a broken fence and out to sea. After Spookley's brave feat, the farmer sows Spookley's seeds in the pumpkin patch year after year, producing pumpkins of all shapes, sizes and colors.

Beyond the ugly duckling theme, the book is also great for fall and Halloween. Delightfully illustrated by Susan Banta, this is a book I am sure I will continue to pull out year after year.
