Does Anybody Else Think This Has Been Going On Too Long???

I caught a few minutes of Letterman last night. You know...the part where he had John McCain in the hot seat.

I must admit that, while I am very interested and have been pretty excited about the presidential campaign this time around, this presidential campaign is just dragging on way too long. I think there need to be a few changes in the presidential campaigning policies because...let's just admit...the way things are right now, we never really learn anything about a candidate and we have little to no chance to figure out what kind of president they are going to be.

So...here are a few recommended changes:

1. The campaigns should only be allowed to raise and spend $200,000. With that money they should grab a URL and have a good website....one that informs a potential voter as to the views of the candidate on the ISSUES. With the rest of the money, the candidates should be allowed to make ONE visit to each of the 50 states to ask voters in that state to vote for them.

2. There should be ONE presidential debate. The Arbiter of these debates must be able to prove that they can arbitrate without bias. We really dont' need more than one of these...do we? Do you learn anything new from watching them?

3. Katie Couric, anybody from NBC and other media personalities who cannot put their own interests aside when they interview a candidate will not be allowed to interview candidates. :) I actually think this is best left to those late night talk show hosts. Somehow they seem to be able to get the candidates to discuss as issue or two. (I must say here how amazed I have been at Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous this year - well done boys!)

4. No more commercials!!! Why? Because the commercials are only about lobbing a huge bag of steer manure at the other candidate these days. Take it from somebody who just had 7 bags of manure spread over the backyard lawn...that stuff just stinks...and brings out the flies...and stinks. I don't need anymore of that stuff to make up my mind about a candidate.

5. If you want to run for president...you can't even breathe a word about it until May of the year of the presidential election. Again...this year's campaign has just been WAY. TOO. LONG!

How are you feeling about the presidential election? Discuss...

I totally agree with all of that! People shouldn't have more of an advantage to run for president because they have/can raise more money.

The commercials usually are just about how the other person is bad, not why you should vote for them. Doesn't even do any good!

I agree this has been going on for way too long. It really starts to get boring. There is nothing else left to discuss, except digging up more dirt from the candidates past the doesn't matter!

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!!! I didn't watch the last debate because I couldn't stand 1) to watch the candidates bicker anymore and 2) to see the media glorify their chosen candidate. Makes me want to throw up. I can't wait until it's over so at least part of our misery will be over. (The other part may just be about to start...)

I am so over everything! I was actually somewhat excited by this candidates this year, but now, it's just the same old, same old. Same mudslinging on both sides, and I'm just tired.

I may vote for a 3rd party, like I did that past 2 elections. Blech.

Good ideas though!

Oh yes! I absolutely, positively agree with you on everything. It's just become SO RIDICULOUS!!
All this time and money, and I still have no clue who I'm voting for.
Sorry, I'm a few days behind in my reading and commenting. I enjoyed your tag post down below, and the beautiful sunset too.

I could not possibly agree more. I literally feel exhausted at the thought of enduring one more day of the commercials. I heard a commercial the other day that made me literally feel that my intelligence had been insulted. It was actually a commercial for McCain, and all you hear is a woman's voice say "Obama thinks that our troops are..." then it cuts away to an Obama sound clip clearly taken out of context saying "pillaging villages and needlessly killing civilians" (or something similar). As someone that is leaning more towards voting for McCain, this commercial was almost enough to sway me the other way. It's just ridiculous.

And I think that budget idea is a great idea. It would not only limit all the propaganda and other unnecessary campaign hoopla, but it would also give us a clear picture of each canidate's ability to budget.

I hate that we know someone running for pres for two years. Come on! Totally agree with your ideas, but isn't there already campaign spending limit that get ignored because of creative donations? Well that's a whole mother issue...

Great ideas. I so wish we had some input as to how these campaigns were ran. After all, we pay for them.

You've got it right! Now, how do we make these the rules they have to follow?
