T for Two!

Baby Boy turned 2 on Sunday (we waited until Monday - yesterday - to celebrate...between just getting home from CA, my doing sharing time and Hubby's meetings that day, it just seemed to make sense). Yes...my baby is 2.

We never really had the "terrible twos" with Big Sis. For her it was the "torturous threes" that really made for one not-so-fun year of growing and learning. I have a sneaking suspicion that this won't be the case for Baby Boy - I'm thinking we're headed for a year of "terrible".

How do I know this already? Well...today Baby Boy woke up screaming and he just kept on screaming until it was nap time. Oh yeah, he did take a few breaks to eat a snack and lunch. I'm sure a major portion of his screaminess today comes from the fact that we just had a crazy schedule breaking week in a place were there is no lack of sensory overload potential and then our church meetings go from 1:30 to 4:30 (meaning...no nap) and then we celebrated his birthday yesterday...I guess 10 days of craziness is bound to catch up with a little 2 year old at some point.

Still it leaves me with the question...what's the deal with the terrible twos? Are boys more prone to the terrible two stage (hopefully preventing the torturous three stage)? Anybody got a good terrible twos story to share?

My girls were more whiny during the 2's and 3's, but destruction belongs to my boys. It starts around...let's see...when they crawl, and #3 turns four in 2 months, and the destruction has yet to cease. #4 is now 16 months old, and he's now climbing things. Ahhhh!!

I think the two's and three's are awful for parents just because the kid is starting to learn independence and awareness of the world. The first year they grow physically so fast --year 2 and 3 are designed to learn quickly. And to learn, one must experience, eh? By putting things in their mouths, and their hands, and "what does this do?" and "how can I make mommy mad again?" etc. etc.

Makes for fun blogging posts, though. :)

Happy Birthday to your baby boy! (and good luck!)

Happy birthday to your baby boy! The threes were my favorite time! Just seems to be a peaceful easy time!

My son hit the terrible twos a few months ago and he's not even two yet! Case in point: he screamed for half an hour yesterday because I wouldn't let him play with marbles. (If he would stop putting them in his mouth, I would let him play with them.)

I can't say that I've really been through the terrible two's, because my Oldest went through her 2's pretty well and my Youngest just hit 18 mos., (they are both girls, though). I can't say we haven't been without our fair share of tantrums and experiments going through the 2's. Especially in the heat of the moment, it's hard to remember that they are little scientists struggling to understand the world around them. (But, isn't it cool when they have those "Ah-hah!" moments?) :)

I actually found that using sign language and some of the principles from "Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood" really helped out because Oldest was able to communicate and feel in control of some aspects of her life. (The lack of at least one of these 2 things are the most frequent roots of tantrums.) So far, signing has been a BIG help with Youngest, as she has been a slower talker--so we'll see if that continues to be a benefit as we work through the 2's in a few months.
