After my husband, Baby Boy and a tearful Big Sis left me at the airport last night, I proceeded with no problem through security and arrived at the departure gate. Still feeling apprehensive about leaving my family and wondering what I would do without "motherly" responsibilities for the next two days, I called my mom. The point of my call was to inform her that it appeared that my flight would be on time and that I didn't foresee any difficulties. She sounded a bit harried and I could hear some commotion in the background. My inquiry of "is everything alright?" was answered with, "well...[your little brother's wife] has just gone to the hospital...they baby is coming tonight." (Or something like that...maybe I shouldn't have used quotation marks...oh well)
My mom was trying to figure out how she was going to take care of Little Bro's two little boys and still pick me up from the airport. Now don't you worry folks, my mama is one resourceful critter...she called her mom and asked if she could have her come and stay with my nephews (who would be asleep in bed) while she (my mommy) came to get me. And 'twas done. Grandma watched the boys, Mama picked me up and my new nephew was born late-ish last night.
Today has been one crazy day. One crazy, yet wonderful day.
Just so you know...right now...I'm listening for Little Bro's little boy so that he could take the big brother to spend some much needed time with his mommy and new littlest brother. And where's my mama? She's back out at the airport picking up Little Sis and (scheduled to arrive 20 minutes later), my dad (who's just getting back from a short visit with his brothers and sisters in Yosemite).
Even though I'm missing my own husband and kids...A LOT!...it's nice to know that my "motherly" skills are still coming in useful.

Hooray and Congrats on the new member of the family! And I'm glad you are still using some motherly skills. I hope the rest of your trip goes well!
Now that is whole lotta family goin' on. I love it. I hope you have a fun time and that your new nephew/niece is healthy and well.
Wow, sounds busy! Hope you have a nice time! Tell your Bro. Congrats!
I agree with Ice cream Diary, that is a whole lotta family goin' on. Sounds like a wonderful vacation. You are busy and happy and will go home exhausted and refreshed. Have fun with your loved ones. And perfect timing to meet the new little addition to your family while your out for a visit.
What a busy day, indeed! I hope you had a fabulous time!
Will it sound too terrible if I say it gets easier to leave your kids? It just takes a little practice ;). B mentioned that she saw you and told you about my blog, but she didn't give me your address, so I hunted you down (it was pretty hard, if that makes you feel more protected). I'm enjoying going through your archives and look forward to reading more. Say hi to your family for me! (Do any of them have blogs?)
I feel bad because I don't have a hard time leaving our little one. I am always excited to see her whenI get home, but I do love the break.
I have noticed that it has been getting harder to leave her. NOw that she is more aware and can tell I am gone... yea it has gotten harder
