Thankful Post - No.1

All of our lovely Halloween decorations are currently sitting on my kitchen table.  I do enjoy the fun of Halloween but I am always excited to turn my attention to Thanksgiving.  I love just about everything about Thanksgiving - the colors, the food, the family, and on and on.  I also love the chance I get to reflect on things for which I feel that amazing sensation and feeling of gratitude.

I am hoping this month on my blog to take the time to think about things I am grateful for.  However, I am going to try to do it a little differently.  I am going to try to think of things I am usually not grateful for and thing of reasons to be grateful for those things.  I guess I am trying to take a page out of Betsy and Corrie's book and be grateful in all things (this is a reference to The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom if you are confused by that last sentence :).

So here it goes.....

Today I am thankful for the piles of laundry that are always present around my house...Before I got married my mom did a great job of teaching me the importance of doing laundry.  She is amazing at getting the laundry done and just has always stayed on top of it.  I have done well at that at some times in my life, but that is not the case at this stage of the game.  I am never on top of it when it comes to laundry.  I usually feel overwhelmed by all the laundry.  My husband is amazing at working on the laundry, so I can't blame him for my lack of tackling the laundry...it's just my own fault that I don't get it done.  But as I said...today I am trying to focus on why I am grateful for the laundry...

I am grateful for laundry because it means that my children, my husband and I all have clothes to wear.  I know not everyone has this luxury and I also know that for some to launder their clothes, it means stripping down to nothing to wash what they have on their backs.  This has never been the case for me and for that I am deeply grateful.  I am also grateful that when I have to work on the laundry, all I have to do it pop it into a machine that does the washing for me.  I do not have to use a washboard, a stick of soap and a river to do my laundry.  I also do not have to fill a huge bath full of boiling hot water and use a stick or board to clean my clothes.  I don't have to hang my clothes up on a line outside during the icy winter to have clean clothes.  I get to pull my clothes out of the dryer.  How lucky am I???  I am also grateful that I do have a husband who is happy to do laundry.  He doesn't think of it as my job or my responsibility. In fact if I am feeling guilty about it he says, "Do you think this is your job?  The laundry?  Well it isn't it is all of our job, not just yours, so chill out."

So...today I am working on being grateful for the laundry and now...I'm off to fold a load.  Happy November 1st!

You do have a wonderful husband! I don't know how we both lucked out because Tyler is always willing to help me too when I slack off. (I'm just like you--sometimes I am on top of the laundry and other times...uh, not so much.)Thanks for sharing.

I'm doing laundry right now too! I'm glad you can have a positive look at it. I'll have to remember that as I'm on my 6th load :)

I spent the day doing laundry too - isn't that what Mondays are for? Thanks for the positive outlook on such a monotonous chore!

laundry, ugh!!! Although when I look at it from your perspective of being thankful to have it, it's not so bad. I too am thankful to have a machine that basically does it for me. Thanks for reminding me to be grateful in All things.
