I never thought I would be able to teach my daughter (Big Sis) how to tie shoes. We started working on it a few months ago without too much success. So...we took a break for a while. I got some advise from others who have gone before and we started working on it again just a little while ago. What I ended up doing was teaching her how to tie shoes starting with the last thing first.
I'll explain...
First, I taught her how to pull on the bow ends to tighten.
Next, she learned how to pull the knot through to make the bow and then she tightened the bow.
We kept working at mastering one part at a time and then we'd go back a little bit more. Yesterday, she surprized me by coming to my room, beaming, to show me that she had just tied both shoes...all my herself.
We were pretty excited.
Even though this picture doesn't show the process, the result is all Big Sis. Way to go Babe! You did it!!!

Way to go!!
I can still remember the first time I manages to tie my shoes on my own. I was so excited!
This reminds me that I need to teach my son how to do this.
I had never thought of teaching it that way. It makes sense because they often forget the last steps. Thanks for the idea.
